About Us

All about handmadebyhells

We have a small, but perfectly formed, shop in Wingate, County Durham (That’s in the North East for England for anyone outside the area or indeed, the Country).

The shop’s 1st Birthday was celebrated on the 1st June 2009 and the online shop was simply the next stage of our game plan. We still have an awful lot to do.

We are predominantly craft suppliers, however offer a good selection of handcrafted cards ‘off the peg’ all made here in store, special order is available. Also a range of thoughtful gifts and treats for the senses (we try and go for an alternative to the high street) as well as supporting gift wraps, bags etc.

A little history how handmadebyhells was conceived. I myself, Hells, (Helen) ‘fell into’ card making as well as a little gardening as a relaxing therapy for me after suffering burnout from a very stressful job way back in 2003. Like most who fall into the craft, I was totally consumed by it very, very quickly, but way back then there was by no means the products around which are available today and indeed found it very difficult to find what I wanted. We also encountered this problem when we were married the previous year (this bride has a vision and it was very difficult making that happen, whether it’s leaf-shaped place cards, confetti cones made from handmade papers…etc… you know!) every bride wants something special, something unique for their day and we found making your own was the only option. Thankfully I was a little crafty.

Apparently it is said that a woman plans her wedding from being 5 years old, my husband says handmadebyhells has been my subconscious plan since I was 4!

I still very much enjoy making cards and offer these for sale in the shop. My own card making has come on in a massive way in the last 4 years.   As well as being lucky enough to have a wealth of product and materials available, it’s just wonderful to speak to fellow card makers with a myriad of styles to exchange tips, ideas and inspirations on a daily basis. Also, I am on hand to assist any beginners / wannabe card makers with any advice, PLEASE ask me daft questions… someone once said to me ‘its only daft if you don’t ask it’ That goes for email too!

Careful though! It’s addictive

We have a very relaxed policy
Take your time, no hard sell
